Who are we?

RURIethnic was born from a relationship with sarees that long predates the idea of a brand. For us, a saree is not a product or a trend. It is a memory. It is familiarity. It is the quiet rhythm of everyday life passed down through generations of women who wore their heritage with ease and confidence.

The name RURIethnic brings together two ideas we hold close — rootedness and identity. It reflects our belief that culture is not something to be preserved at a distance, but something to be lived with, worn often, and carried forward naturally.

RURIethnic is a handloom-first saree brand built around this belief. We work with Indian textiles not to modernise them aggressively, but to allow them to remain relevant — through thoughtful curation, comfort-led choices, and respect for the craft behind every weave.

Our journey began with a desire to reconnect — with handloom traditions, with weavers whose skills carry centuries of knowledge, and with women who see sarees as garments of comfort and choice rather than obligation. Every saree we bring to RURIethnic is chosen slowly, with attention to fabric, fall, and feeling.

Handloom, for us, is a conversation between past and present. It starts at the loom, shaped by skilled hands and patient processes, and continues when a woman drapes the saree and makes it her own. The finished piece carries more than threads — it carries the presence of everyone who has touched it along the way.

RURIethnic does not chase novelty. We believe in familiarity that deepens with time. In designs that grow on you. In colours that settle into your life. In sarees that feel lived in, not preserved. At its heart, RURIethnic is about honouring Indian craft while creating space for it in contemporary wardrobes. It is about slowing down, choosing well, and wearing with intention.

This is our way of keeping handloom alive — not by placing it on a pedestal, but by letting it remain close, relevant, and deeply personal.

What Makes RURIethnic Different

There are some things you recognise instantly, even if you can’t quite explain them. The ease of a saree that falls right the moment you drape it. The comfort of fabric that feels familiar, not performative. The quiet confidence that comes from wearing something made with intention.

At RURIethnic, difference is not created through novelty. It comes from care.

Every saree we bring in is chosen slowly, touched, felt, worn, reconsidered. We think about how it will move with a body, how it will feel after a long day, how it will age with time. Not every saree makes it to our collection. Only the ones that feel honest do.

That care shows up in small ways. In the fall of the pallu. In the weight of the fabric. In how easily a woman makes it her own.

It’s not about standing out. It’s about feeling at home.

Chosen Like You Would Choose for Yourself

RURIethnic sarees are not picked with a checklist. They are chosen the way you would choose for someone you care about.

With attention. With patience. With respect for where the saree comes from and where it will go next.

Handloom, for us, is not a category. It is a relationship with the weaver, with the fabric, and eventually with the woman who wears it. That relationship demands responsibility. It asks us to slow down, to listen, and to never treat a saree as just another product.

When a RURIsitara walks into our store or visits us online, we want her to feel seen. Not sold to. We want her to discover a saree and think, “This feels like me.”

That feeling  quiet, personal, and unmistakable  is what sets RURIethnic apart.

The People Behind RURIethnic

RURIethnic is built by a small team with a shared vision and a deep sense of partnership.

At the heart of the brand are Shilpi and Kedar Deshpande — partners in life and co-founders in work. Their collaboration is rooted in mutual respect, complementary strengths, and a shared belief in building something meaningful and enduring.

Shilpi brings the soul of RURIethnic to life through storytelling, sourcing, and the lived understanding of sarees as garments of comfort, culture, and identity. Her relationship with handloom, craft, and women’s experiences shapes the brand’s philosophy and direction.

Kedar anchors the brand behind the scenes. From managing finance and operations to building and maintaining the website, handling photography, editing, and creating all visual communication, he ensures that RURIethnic functions with clarity, structure, and consistency. His eye for detail and his quiet, methodical approach bring balance to the brand’s emotional core.

Together, they work in constant conversation between creativity and structure, intuition and logic, vision and execution. This partnership allows RURIethnic to remain thoughtful in its choices while being disciplined in how it grows.

Being a small team is not a limitation for them. It allows closeness  to the product, to the process, and to the people they work with. Every saree, every image, every interaction carries the attention of hands that are personally invested.

RURIethnic is shaped by this shared journey  one where trust, understanding, and collaboration are not just values spoken about, but lived every day.
