Our Weavers – Shyam Da | RURIethnic

Shyam Da, West Bengal

At RURIethnic, every saree begins far before it reaches the loom. It begins in a village, with a way of life shaped by patience and skill.

Shyam Da comes from a small weaving village in West Bengal, where handloom is not learnt in classrooms but absorbed through everyday living. The sound of the loom, the rhythm of weaving, the understanding of yarn, these are not acquired overnight. They are lived over the years.

Shyam Da’s journey with weaving started early, watching elders at work, gradually learning to read the loom the way one reads a language. Over time, his skill matured into mastery, especially in fine handloom silk work that demands precision, focus, and calm.

Our association with Shyam Da is rooted in trust and continuity. We work closely with him on fabric quality, texture, and finishes, while allowing him the freedom to weave the way he knows best, without rushing the process or compromising on craft. For him, each saree is a responsibility. For us, it is a reminder of why we chose handloom in the first place.

When a RURIethnic saree woven by Shyam Da finds its way into your wardrobe, it carries more than fabric. It carries a village’s knowledge, a weaver’s pride, and a craft that continues because it is respected.
